Ne-Yo stopped by Power 105.1 Breakfast Club to chop it up with the hosts of the show. He is still working on his new album “R.E.D” and putting last touches on it. During the interview, the singer talked about why he decided to turn down Marvin Gaye role in a new biopic as well as the state of R&B nowadays and recent “hot” singers.

On not wanting to play Marvin Gaye, because he didn’t want to gain weight:
“It wasn’t even so much about the weight gain, it was more about the fact that, that’s a role for an actor actor. Acting is cool but that’s not my main passion. You can’t half ass Martin Luther King.”
On if he abandoned traditional R&B sound:
“No, not at all. The first record that I put out is called “Lazy Love,” which is a classic and traditional R&B record. I don’t know if y’all playing, because it’s a little bit too R&B and don’t fit most formats. But it’s a traditional R&B record. And [the album] is a mix of both [R&B and pop]. I can never abandon R&B, that’s where I came from. But if you listen to my pop music vs. other stuffs out there,there’s still some soul in there, my voice is my voice, I can’t escape that.”
