We earlier reported that GMA Anchor Robin Roberts was diagnosed with MDS, a bone marrow disorder that affects blood cells production. In order to treat the MDS she had to had a bone marrow transplant. Luckily for Robin her sister was a %100 match.
Yesterday, Robin, who was getting ready for the procedure for the last couple of month, successfully completed the bone marrow transplant. And she even let it be taped on camera, surrounded by family and close friends.
“People have in their mind all kinds of images of what can happen in a transplant,” says Robin. “But it’s still an incredibly powerful moment. Inside of that syringe are millions and millions of stem cells that are now circulating around and trying to find their home and start growing which is what we’re going to be looking for over the next couple of weeks.”
What a strong and inspiring woman! We wish her the fastest recovery!
