So you’ve heard already of Wyclef Jean’s autobiography “Purpose” and that it is more of a tell-all book rather than anything else. Yes, the book talk about Wyclef’s life, but it seems like everyone focused only on the part where he talks about his affair with Lauryn Hill.
“For the next nine months, I assumed her child was mine,” writes Wyclef in his book. “It was easy to do as we rode the wave of success. In my mind, it was complicated and dangerous, but it was beautiful, too: If Lauryn and I had a child together, it was, to me, a product of our music and everything we’d worked to achieve. It made sense to my heart, as much as I knew it was wrong in my mind.[Wyclef was was already married at the time].. I was proud of it when we performed in Haiti, because Lauryn was visibly pregnant. So to me, we were playing a concert for my people with our child growing inside of her.
[..]When Lauryn gave birth, I learned the truth: the child wasn’t mine. It was Rohan Marley’s. And in that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she had led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.”
That’s how Wyclef was describing his side of the story in the book. But Rohan Marley thinks different. He claims that Wyclef knew all along the baby wasn’t his. In fact, he was the one who gave Rohan a green light to date Lauryn and by the time the two started dating, Wyclef and Lauryn were over with their affair.
“[Wyclef] knew from jump that was my son from the day [Lauryn] was pregnant,” Rohan Marley tells TMZ.”They were definitely not messing around, or he would never have given me the okay.
[Wyclef] is just saying false things to get book headlines..I know he is fronting himself.”
Wyclef Jean did have something to say to Rohan Marley’s comment too.
“There is no way that I would have shown up in the hospital in that circumstance to wait for a baby to be born if it was not mine. The idea of a memoir is to tell the truth. I know that often the truth hurts, but a lie hurts even more.”
Now we only gotta hear Lauryn Hill’s side of that story. I doubt, she will comment on it though.
